1) A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent’s position. To “set up a straw man” or “set up a straw man argument” is to create a position that is easy to refute, then attribute that position to the opponent. The position can be oversimplified, overstated, or else distorted. A straw man argument can be a successful rhetorical technique (that is, it may succeed in persuading people) but it is in fact a misleading fallacy, because the opponent’s actual argument has not been refuted.
Hey staw…read your wes profile…did you know he hit some guy with a samurai sword…what’s his deal…is he a racist or what?
Hey Johnny. As you know, there are many sides to any story. I have heard from a close friend of the family that many of the witnesses have changed their stories about the sword attack over time. I guess we will have to wait for the trial. I will do my best to report on that here, if you want to check back.
See ya, Straw
Racist? No.
