Leonard Cohen was a live-in student at the Mount Baldy Zen Center from 1993-1998.  Here is what is expected of new students:

What to bring
* a sleeping bag or blankets
* 2 pairs of sandals or slip-on shoes
* a flashlight
* an umbrella
* a towel
* personal toiletries
* a pair of white socks
* a cup or mug for your room
* a waterproof poncho or jacket
* warm clothing, such as long underwear
You may also need warm boots and gloves in the cold weather
* a set of traditional black sitting robes.
A limited supply of student robes is available for sesshin participants for a $5 rental fee. Full-time Seichu students are required to provide their own set of student robes. Robe sets can be purchased from our friends at Still Sitting Meditation Supplies

* If you are becoming a student of Joshu Roshi for the first time, please also bring $25 (incense money) in a white envelope.
